An honest comparison

A free, open source Previewed alternative

Previewed earned its reputation with genuinely beautiful 3D renders and promo videos, and those still look great. But its changelog stopped in February 2023, its newest device frame is the iPhone 14, and free exports cap at 720p with an attribution license attached. Open Screenshot Generator is maintained, current, and free at full resolution with no strings on the files you export

Questions

Fair questions, straight answers

Is Previewed abandoned?

Only its makers know. The public signals as of August 2026, a changelog frozen at v1.1.8 from February 2023, a footer copyright still reading 2021, a blog subdomain that no longer resolves and no device frame newer than the iPhone 14, all point the same way. The renders it produces still look lovely

What does the Previewed free tier actually allow?

2D exports up to 720p, under a Creative Commons attribution license, with commercial use reserved for paid plans. Plus is a $9.99 one time purchase with 10 exports at 1080p and up, and Pro is $19 per month billed annually at $228

Is 720p usable for App Store screenshots?

No. The required 6.9 inch iPhone tier is 1290 by 2796 pixels, and every other size Apple and Google accept is also far past 720p, so a 720p export cannot be uploaded as a store screenshot at all

Is Open Screenshot Generator really completely free?

Yes. There is no paid tier at all. Exports come out at full resolution with no attribution license, no watermark, no account and no export limit. The full source code is public on GitHub

Can it match Previewed's 3D animations?

Honestly, no. You get 3D device poses on current hardware and MP4 preview videos in Chrome, Edge or the desktop app, which covers what the stores need. Previewed's cinematic animation renders remain nicer to look at, on the devices it has
